The Archduke Mousin’s Last Ride
Hot off the roaring success of the last Archduke Mousin commissions I finished (cheers again for all the love on socials!), I figured it was finally time to paint one for myself — and this particular piece has been sitting in my “to paint” box for far too long.
So, here he is — The Archduke Mousin’s Last Ride.
A weathered old warrior, still holding his head high, charging through the underbrush atop his loyal mount.
This piece was a real labour of love. I’d been planning it for ages, and while I had a blast bringing it to life, I will say this: so. much. fur. Going all in on the fine details was... tiresome at times, but I couldn’t leave it unfinished — not this one.
From fur to foliage, I leaned into earthy tones and subtle natural textures to give this one a grounded, storytelling-rich vibe. I’m particularly happy with the moss effects and how the base came together — it really helped tie the scene together.
This will be heading off to QMHE for the 2025 painting competition. First time I went, I didn’t place — but that was a few years and a few skill points ago. Fingers crossed the judges are feeling generous this time around!
